Produced for photographer Ryo Kaikura’s solo exhibition, this catalogue focuses on the world of Japanese traditional crafts. Through bold composition and lighting, the exhibition’s photography captures the textures and intricate details of each product with meticulous precision.
In response to the "stillness" inherent in these objects, the design seeks to inject a sense of "motion" through the graphic treatment. To refresh the rigid and static imagery often associated with traditional crafts, I utilised a strong, bold typeface for the typography. By combining this with a fluid layout, the design visualises the avant-garde spirit hidden within tradition.
The result is a volume that aims to present the enduring appeal of Japanese craft from a new perspective, stepping beyond established frameworks.

フォトグラファー・皆倉亮氏の個展に際し制作した図録。日本の工芸品にフォーカスした本展では、大胆な構成とライティングによって、各プロダクトの質感やディテールが緻密に描き出されている。
デザインにおいては、工芸品が持つ「静」の佇まいに対し、グラフィックで「動」のエネルギーを注入することを試みた。工芸品のデザインにありがちな硬質で静的なイメージを刷新するため、タイポグラフィには力強いボールド体を採用。流動的なレイアウトを組み合わせることで、伝統の中に宿る前衛性を視覚化している。
歴史ある工芸品の魅力を、既存の枠組みとは異なる「別の角度」から提示することを目指した一冊。
